We are the East Sussex Branch of the Royal Military Police Assosiation. The branch meet on the First Friday of each month (except January and February) at the Royal Air Force Association, Eastbourne Branch, Wish Road, Eastbourne. Meeting starts at 2000hrs, Bar opens at 1900hrs. All members and ex members of the Corps, together with Wives, Girlfriends, Husbands or partners are welcome. We have a guest speaker at most meetings and we have had some memorable evenings. Whilst we a primarily for ex RMP we would be happy to welcome ex members of the Royal Air Force Police, Royal Marines Police and the Royal Navy Regulating Branch as associate members along with members of other Corps who served with RMP units.. History of the EAST SUSSEX BRANCH RMPA The branch’s first meeting was in June of 1996 when it was agreed to form and apply for recognition. The meeting had been called by Major Bob Peedle, then a TA officer serving at the MOD. He was assisted in the calling of this meeting by John Hide, which was held in the Sergeants’ Mess of 163 Provost Company (V) at Preston Barracks in The meeting of the original members was also attended by Captain Rogers, the PSAO of the TA Company and later his wife, Jill, became our Treasurer. At this meeting the following officers were appointed: Chairman: Harry Fisher (former regular RSM), Secretary, Bob Peedle. Meetings were from then held on the drill night, Wednesday, using the Corporal’s mess whilst its members were in training then all ranks joined the branch afterwards. The branch’s first task was to raise funds for the purchase of a branch Standard. In this respect we were given a marvellous present in that the late Lieutenant Colonel John Watson OBE, formerly of The Branch’s first President was Colonel Peter Howard-Harwood MBE, who although not ex Corps had been associated with many Corps members during his service and as a local former Councillor, President of the local RA Branch and Chairman of The branch continued to meet at Preston Barracks until the major changes to the TA in 1999 meant that the TA Centre was closed and we were lucky enough to be allowed to meet in the RAFA Club in Wish Road, Eastbourne, where we have been ever since, but later it was necessary to change the meetings to a Friday evening because of other commitments at the RAFA Club. Over the years we have developed our own annual Dinner and Dance in The RMPA Annual Reunion was held in |
