We remember our Old Comrades

James (Jim) Hillyard
Ex 23531496, L/cpl. 667 Squad Inkerman. Postings included 101Coy at Krefeld and Rhinedahlen, 19 Imf. Bde Cyprus and UK 156 Coy Colchester. After a SIB Probationers course in1959 he worked in Hounslow, Colchester, Shorncliffe, Chatham and Berlin until demob in 1962 when he joined the Sussex County police where he did 22 years retiring with the rank of Sergeant. Jim suffered from Cancer for many years which he bore with great fortitude and he will be missed by his family and many friends.
Len Bland.
Len was a founder member of the Branch, a very private person but a good friend.
Wife of our Welfare Officer, Bob Adams, died peacefully on 28th October from a very aggressive tumour.
Wife of Michael Pelling, suddenly after a stroke. We extend our condolencies to Mike and his family

S/Sgt SIB-RMP. A
bombadier in a previous life serving with the Royal Artillery 1939-1945
(42-45 as a POW) re Mustered with the Corps on release until demob in
1947 with the rank of Corporal. Jim then joined the Metropolitan Police
and served 25 years with them, and to keep himself busy he served with
the A.E.R. from 51 - 67 with RMP/SIB reaching the rank of Staff
Sergeant. Jim finally lost his fight for life on Monday 17th January.

14588779 SGT Fred Wood, CMP
Fred was a rifleman, taken Prisoner at Angio. Finally getting back to UK he re-badged with the Corps and after training at Mitchette he reamied in depot as permanent Orderly Room Sergeant. Having been in and out of hospital over the last couple of years he lost his fight for life on 6th November. Though not a member of our branch he was most certainly an Old Comrade,

Walter(Wally) Turner. Joined the Corps in 1943 retiring in 1947. He and Gladys married in 1950 and they celebrated their Diamond Wedding in March of this year.

Patricia Dixon, wife of Mike, lost her fight against cancer. Pat was our branch treasurer until her failing health forced her retirement.

L/Cpl.
Michael Pritchard was shot and killed whilst on duty in Sangin,
Afghanistan on Sunday 20th December 2009 at the age of 22. Our
condolences go to his family.
Michael Pritchard although born in the
neighbouring county of Kent moved to Eastboune whilst still a toddler
and grew up in East Sussex which was his home at the time of his
untimely death.

WOII Roger Vince, RMP/SIB. A member of our branch until he left us to fulfil an ambition to start a branch of the RMPA specifically for ex SIB. He was writing history of the SIB, a project which is being edited by Bob Peedle in memory of Roger.
